Four Lancers Place at the Reno Tournament of Champions

RENO, NV--- The California Baptist University wrestling team competed at the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday, with four wrestlers coming away as placers.
Teams competing at the RTOC included Oregon State, Cal Poly, and Utah Valley, among many others. The Lancers wrestled six and had four others competing unattached on the day, with seven wrestlers posting multiple victories in their respective brackets.
Among the placers for CBU were Daniel Manibog (2nd Place), Mason Espinoza (3rd Place), Richard Murillo (Unattached- 1st Place), and Koa Ruiz (6th Place). The Lancers were very competitive at 165lbs, with both Manibog and Espinoza earning their way through the Championships bracket in the semifinals. Manibog and Espinoza were matched up with each other in the semifinals, with Manibog coming out on top 11-6 via a decision. Manibog faced Cam Robinson of Grandview in the championship match but would come up short to claim the runner-up title at 165 lbs. After falling to his teammate in the semifinals, Espinoza defeated Kekana Fouret of Oregon State in the third-place match 10-4 by decision.
Murillo would be the lone winner for the Lancers on the day as he was wrestling unattached at 133lbs. Murillo dominated his way through the bracket with four straight match wins to reach the finals against Jackson Cockrell of Grandview. Murillo would win via major decision in the finals 17-5 to claim the first-place title. Ruiz was the final placer for the Lancers on the day at 157lbs. Ruiz fell out of the championship bracket in the round of 32 before winning four straight matches in the consolation bracket to reach the Fifth Place bout. In the bout, Ruiz took on Sloan Swan of Wyoming, who was wrestling unattached. The match was close, but Swan would come away with a 3-0 victory to give Ruiz the sixth-place distinction.
NEXT: The Lancers will compete in the prestigious Midlands Invitational from December 29-30 in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
