The 2023-24 Season Ends in the WAC Quarterfinals
3/14/2024 11:39:00 PM | Men's Basketball
LAS VEGAS, NV--- The season for the California Baptist University men's basketball team came to an end in the Western Athletic Conference Quarterfinals at the hands of the #4 Seattle U Redhawks.
After an extended, hard-fought overtime win the night before over Utah Valley, the Lancers played less than 24 hours later in the quarterfinals and ultimately fell to the Redhawks 81-57. The loss will end the 2023-24 campaign for the Lancers, finishing 16-17 overall and claiming a win in the conference tournament for the third straight season.
The Lancers have now won at least 15 games every season since jumping to DI in 2018 (outside of the shortened 2020-21 campaign) and have eclipsed ten home wins in each of their six seasons since joining the WAC.
PLAY-BY-PLAY:
The hot shooting of the Redhawks was on full display from the jump, especially from Cameron Tyson and Josh Cristofilis, who combined for 27 points on six made threes in the first half alone. The Redhawks connected on 62% of their shots in the first and made eight of their 11 triples. The Lancers also shot the ball well at nearly 43%, but the Redhawks would not relent from their hot shooting and would lead 43-26 at the end of the first half.
The second half was more of the same as the Redhawks continued their hot streak from the perimeter and the field. Seattle U's lead would balloon to as many as 31 before settling at the final score of 81-57.
STATISTICAL NOTABLES:
Yvan Ouedroago capped off his best offensive season as a collegiate athlete with a team-high 15 points and collected five rebounds. Ouedraogo set new career bests in points per game, field goals made, and rebounds in his graduate season with the Lancers. Blondeau Tchoukuiegno was the only other Lancer in double figures with 11, and he dished out seven assists to boot.
