
CBU Falls to Nevada on Day Two of the CBU/UCR Challenge

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University volleyball team battled Nevada on Friday evening as they continued their home opening weekend at the CBU/UCR Challenge. The Lancers would start strong but ultimately fell to the Wolfpack in four sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
CBU came out strong in the opening set as they built a slight lead early on that would not be relinquished. Nevada came close to pulling off the comeback, tying the match at 23 until a pair of untimely errors gave the Lancers the 25-23 victory. Nevada would come out determined in the second set and would tie the match up at one set apiece with a 25-9 result.
The third set was tightly contested, with both teams jocking for the momentum. Nevada would open up the largest lead of the set at 14-9. However, the Lancers would respond following a timeout and chop the lead down to two points. Mia Jerue would give CBU the lead at 21-20 following a pair of aces, and the Lancers would eventually reach set point at 24-23. The Wolfpack would go on to score four of the final five points to pull out the 27-25 win in set three.
The fourth set would prove to be similar to set three as the Wolfpack surged ahead early and wrapped up the match with a 25-20 victory.
STATISTICAL NOTABLES:
CBU had a more balanced attack in the contest, with three different players registering more than seven kills. Eliana Posada would be the only Lancer in double figures with ten kills, and she aided mightily on the defensive side with a career-high three blocks. Mia Jerue, continuing to start at libero, had a season-high 21 digs in the contest and added four aces to her day totals.
Avery Barber and Reese Reed combined for 30 assists and ten digs at setter for CBU, and middle blocker Madison Gilliland would hit over .500 and chip in 3.5 blocks.
NEXT: The Lancers will finish out the CBU/UCR Challenge against San Diego State on Saturday, September 14, at 1 PM at Van Dyne Gym.
