RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist Univesity closed out the CBU/Challenge on Saturday afternoon as they battled San Diego State. The Aztecs would remain unbeaten in the tournament with a three-set victory over the Lancers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set one was all San Diego State, as the Mountain West squad would execute a 13-2 run in the middle of the set to open up a commanding 19-7 lead over CBU. The Lancers would put together a small rally, but ultimately, the Aztecs would achieve victory 25-11. Set two was tightly contested, with no team leading by more than two points early on. The Aztecs would string together a few scoring rallies to take a 22-18 lead. However, CBU would battle back and get within two. The Aztecs would capitalize off a few CBU errors and take the 2-0 match lead.
The final set would be similar to the previous one as the Aztecs would grow and hold a small lead throughout. The Lancers made things interesting toward the back end of the set with a 4-1 run to bring the score to 20-19 in favor of SDSU. The Aztecs would once again take advantage of CBU errors and ride out the 25-22 victory in three sets.
