
CBU Battles CSUN in Northridge in a Midweek Contest

NORTHRIDGE--- The California Baptist University volleyball team traveled north to Northridge for a midweek tilt with the Matadors of CSUN. The home team would hold serve in front of its home crowd and would take down the Lancers in straight sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lancers would jump out front in the opening set 4-2, but a 9-0 Matador run would put the score out of reach for CBU. The Lancers would get within two points on a few occasions in the set but ultimately would succumb to the Matadors 25-19. The second set was a game of runs between CBU and CSUN, with both squads exchanging points throughout the period. With the score at 19-18 in favor of CSUN, the home team would execute a 6-1 scoring run to pull away from the Lancers and take a 2-0 lead.
CBU controlled the narrative early on in the third period, taking leads of 5-2 and 7-3 early on. CSUN would storm back and tie the match at 10-10 and would not look back. The Matadors would go on 3-0 and 4-0 runs in the set to earn the match victory at 25-19.
STATISTICAL NOTABLES:
Emery DeJong would lead the squad in kills with 11 off the bench with a modest hitting percentage of .333. Avery Barber started her first career match at setter for the Lancers and would post a near double-double with 23 assists and nine digs. Barber also showcased some savviness, with two kills, and recorded a block.
NEXT: The Lancers return home to play host to the WAC/Big West Challenge with matchups against Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine this weekend.
