RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University women's volleyball team concluded the WAC/Big West Challenge with a three-set defeat at the hands of the UC Irvine Anteaters on Saturday evening. The Match was the final of the non-conference schedule for CBU, and they will now turn their attention to the Western Athletic Conference slate.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
UCI was in front from the jump in the opening set as they quickly opened up a 6-2 lead over CBU. The Lancers would battle back to make the score 14-10, but the Anteaters would register an 11-3 run to end the set and put themselves in front 1-0. The second set was the most competitive of the evening, with both teams trading massive scoring runs on one another. CBU would fall behind 21-16 but would rattle off six of the next eight points to bring the score to within one and force a UCI timeout. UCI would convert two attacks on the ensuing possession to hold off the Lancer rally and take the 2-0 lead.
The final set was all UCI from the jump, leading by as many as 15 points in the set. CBU would rally to make the score manageable, but ultimately, UCI had done too much damage and would claim the final set 25-16.
STATISTICAL NOTABLES:
