
Swim Pulls Double Duty, Battles CMS and Pacific Over the Weekend

RIVERSIDE - The California Baptist University swim teams participated in back-to-back duals this weekend, first taking on DIII powerhouse Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont on Friday before hosting Pacific at the Lancer Aquatics Center on Saturday. The Lancers evenly split the event wins with both teams, equally splitting 26 event wins with the Stags and Athenas on Friday while divvying up 28 equal wins against Pacific.
AGAINST CMS
CBU claimed wins in three of the four relay events that bookended the meet, 500-yard medley, and freestyle relays. Individually, Mark Kovacsics took his usual top spot on the podium in the 1,650 freestyle for the Lancers' first win of the day. Andrija Petkovic continued his hot season with victories in the 100 and 200 free races. Liam Flaherty won the 300 IM race, while Andrew Teh touched first in the 300 butterfly and 300 backstroke.
On the women's side, Nicole Reynolds won her 50 free event, and Gabriela Robles took first in the 300 butterfly. Kai Flanagan is finding her stride at the right time after claiming the win in the 500 free race. Lynn Henke took the top spot in the 300 breaststroke event, edging her CMS counterpart by .01 seconds.
AGAINST PACIFIC
The Lancers and Tigers split the relay events on Saturday, with CBU taking the men's 200 free and women's 200 medley races. Kovacsics continued his winning ways on Saturday by claiming the 400 freestyle crown. Remi Fabiani saved it all for Saturday, and it paid off in a big way, touching first in the 100 free, 50 free, and as part of the winning 200 free relay squad. Petkovic doubled his winnings on Saturday by winning in the 50 free event while Austin De La O won in the 200 free event. Brendan Man closed out the individual wins by seizing his opportunity in the 50 fly.
Olivia Walton had a good day for the women, touching first in the 50 back, 100 back, and as part of the winning 200 medley relay squad. Emily Drossell took the crown in the 100 fly, and Flanagan took two on Saturday, winning the 400 and 200 free races. Freshman Sara Svorcan stepped up against tough competition, winning the 50 fly comfortably.
Next on the schedule for the swim team is a dual against Western Athletic Conference foe Grand Canyon on January 18 in Phoenix.
