COLORADO SPRINGS - Mario Del Valle and Audrey Thordarson-Wehner pulled off the Lancer sweep on Saturday's final day of the Air Force Academy Diving Invite, marking a successful end to the 2024-25 swim and dive regular season.
Day one of competition saw the men start things on the 3-meter springboard while the women kicked things off on the 1-meter. Del Valle and John Angelovic each secured a spot in the finals, with Del Valle being the top qualifier, eventually placing fifth, and Angelovic improving his score and coming in ninth. For the women, Thordarson-Wehner and Audrey Easter were the duo representing CBU in the finals, as Thordarson-Wehner placed fifth overall and Easter finished in 12th place.
Friday's second day of action saw the men and women swap boards, with three finalists on the day, all coming from the men's side. Del Valle was again the top-placing Lancer, finishing as runner-up in the finals with a score of 329.85. Nate Warson made his 2025 AFA Diving Invite finals debut in the 1-meter event, claiming fifth place with a score of 297.55. Angelovic joined Del Valle as a back-to-back finals participant, closing out Friday's work with an eighth-place finish and 282.00 points.
Saturday's finale saw all competitors on the platform event, which started with a big number from Thordarson-Wehner, the top qualifier in the platform event with a program record score of 280.60. She would back that effort up with a winning performance in the finals, posting a score of 267.9. Easter and Bella Reynolds also qualified for the platform finals, with Easter also making her way onto the platform in third place and Reynolds turning in a strong seventh-place finish in a deep field.
Finally, Del Valle hit the finals trifecta on Saturday, matching Thordarson-Wehner with the win in the men's platform event. Angelovic also went three-for-three in finals appearances this weekend, closing out the platform contest with a seventh-place finish.
With the regular season officially closed for both swim and dive, the Lancers will train and build towards the Western Athletic Conference Championships at the end of the month. The four-day event will occur in Houston, Texas, from February 26 to March 1.
