MBB Preview: CBU Preps for Homecoming Week

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University men's basketball is preparing for Homecoming Week as they play the final two conference opponents they have yet to face in UT Arlington and Utah Tech.
The Lancers will carry the momentum they garnered from last Saturday night's convincing win over Grand Canyon at home into this week as they sit at 5-4 in the Western Atheltic Conference schedule. The 5-4 record ties them for third in the standings with Seattle U however CBU currently owns the tiebreaker over the Redhawks via their head-to-head win in Riverside on January 4.
Before the big Homecoming Game on Saturday, the Lancers will take a one-off road trip to Arlington on Thursday afternoon as they face the UTA Mavericks for the first time this season. CBU split the season series with the eventual runner-ups a season ago, with both teams holding serve at home. In their brief time as conference opponents, CBU holds the series matchup 2-1, with Arlington's only win coming last season at the College Park Center. UTA is currently sitting at 4-6 in conference play after being picked to finish second in the conference in the preseason poll. UTA won four straight games heading into last week but would lose on the road to Utah Valley and Seattle in consecutive games.
The final game of the week will be a big one in Riverside as it will be the annual Homecoming Weekend at California Baptist University. The Lancers are set to face Utah Tech for the first time this season for the game and currently sit at 2-6 in conference play. CBU is 4-1 in the DI era in Homecoming games, with their only loss coming last season at the hands of Seattle U. The Trailblazers and Lancers have a history that goes all the way back to their time in DII as PacWest rivals. Since both teams became DI members, Utah Tech holds the series 4-3 and swept the season series in 2023-24.
