Seven More Medals for CBU on Friday, and the Men are Poised for History
3/1/2025 4:16:00 AM | Swimming and Diving
HOUSTON - California Baptist swim and dive earned seven more medals on Friday evening, including two record-setting efforts, one on platform and the other as a quartet, and the positioning to vie for history. After three days and 29 events, the Lancer men find themselves in second place overall (515 points), just four points behind reigning champions UNLV (519 points) for the title. This is the closest CBU has been coming into the final day of competition since joining the Western Athletic Conference in 2018-19. The women's side remains in the medal contention, occupying the third-place slot with 376 points, sandwiched between New Mexico State (398) and Grand Canyon (359) as the three battle for the remaining medal positions.
Lancer relays have been on point this weekend and Friday was no exception as the men's 400 Medley Relay claimed gold in 3:06.35, setting new WAC and CBU records to beat. Fresh off assisting with one leg of that relay win, Remi Fabiani earned his second individual championship of the weekend, claiming the 100 back title for himself in a time of 45.40. Audrey Thordarson-Wehner picked up the final women's diving medal on the women's side, securing her first individual WAC championship in the platform event with a program record-setting effort of 281.05 points.
Andrija Petkovic and Sofia Maksimova added some silver hardware to the CBU count, finishing runner-up in the 200 free and 100 fly, respectively. Jon Reiter earned the meet rainbow with his first individual medal, a bronze in the 100 breast, to go along with his relay gold and silver from the first two days. Junior Audrey Easter was able to break through in the final diving event of the week and secure her first-career podium finish, taking third place in the platform event with a score of 238.20.
Justin Welch led a group of nine Lancers who earned Second Team All-WAC honors, as he claimed two spots on that list in the 200 free and 100 back on Friday evening, alongside Andrew Teh (100 back), Kai Flanagan (200 free), Emily Drossel (100 fly), Tyler Mansheim (100 fly), Nicole Reynolds (100 back), and Brendan Man (100 fly). With team totals almost historically close this season, the 15 additional point contributors who didn't quite make the all-conference cut are as crucial as ever. That list includes Bella Reynolds (platform), Simeon Rinkenberger (100 back), Olivia Walton (100 back), Kathryn Connors (100 back), Liberty Edwards (100 breast), Lynn Henke (100 breast), John Sullivan (200 free), Mark Kovacsics (400 IM), Gabriela Robles (400 IM), Lucas Colombo (100 fly), Emma Hagan (100 fly), Sara Svorcan (100 fly), Ian Mullen (100 breast), Eliza Taylor (400 IM), and Jade Fontenelle (platform).
