RIVERSIDE - The California Baptist University men's swim and dive team cleaned up when the Western Athletic Conference announced the 2024-25 WAC Swimming and Diving awards winners this afternoon. Two Lancer student-athletes, Remi Fabiani and Mario Del Valle, along with coaches Jim Bossert and Miranda King, will each have new hardware to show off after an incredible final WAC Swim and Dive Championships at the beginning of the month.
Remi Fabiani, a senior sprinter, was voted men's Swimmer of the Year by the WAC coaches after breaking multiple WAC records in Houston and adding five more gold medals to his career tally.
Mario Del Valle continued the dynastic run of the CBU men's diving team, earning his second-straight men's Diver of the Year award, the fifth-in-a-row for the Lancers, and becomes the second back-to-back winner in CBU history, joining Evan Honer on that shortlist.
Miranda King also extends the incredible run by the men's diving side, earning her second men's Diving Coach of the Year award. King and former head coach Jeff Cuoto have combined to claim four of the past five WAC men's Diving Coach of the Year awards.
Head Coach Jim Bossert impressed his peers with the stellar performance of the Lancer men at Championship weekend, earning him the program's first WAC men's Swimming Coach of the Year award. CBU was not chosen to finish in the top three prior to the start of the postseason but ended up pushing eventual champions UNLV until the very end, entering the final day just 30 points behind the Rebels and securing the Lancer's highest point total in Division I history, 776.
With conference and Zone events completed, four Lancers now look forward to challenging the top tier of their respective disciplines at the NCAA National Championships in Federal Way, Washington. First up, CBU's lone female qualifier, Sofia Maksimova, will compete in the 50 and 100 freestyle races, as well as the 100 butterfly this week, while Fabiani, Del Valle, and Mark Kovacsics will have to wait until March 27-29 to compete.
