ARLINGTON, TX--- The California Baptist University track team had a light day two of the Western Athletic Conference Championships, only competing in the 800M prelims.
The Lancers were able to get in all four of their heats in the 800M before a lightning delay sidelined the competition as they competed in both the Men's and Women's divisions. On the men's side, Keith Korir was the lone competitor and would run in the first heat. Korir finished two seconds off of his personal best that he set at the Occidental Invitational at 2:02.58. The time placed him 19th of the 21 runners in the event.
The women had a successful competition with three runners competing in the four-heat event. Petra Sara Kiss had a very strong start for the women, finishing second in her heat at 2:13.77. Unfortunately, the final two heats of the race were a tick faster, and Kiss would be the first one off the time qualifier list by 0.41 seconds. Nazarena Rivas would run 2:29.42 and finish 24th of 25 runners in the second heat. In the third heat, Laura Acuna would leave no doubt about advancing with a first-place finish to nab the automatic qualifier in her heat. Her time of 2:11.79 would be the fastest in the field and would be a new personal best for the sophomore from Chile. Acuna, along with 11 other runners, will now compete in the finals on Saturday afternoon.
NEXT: Several Lancers will compete on Championship Saturday in the 800M, 1500M, and 5K Finals.
