ARLINGTON, TX- The Western Athletic Conference announced its year-end awards on Tuesday afternoon, which saw the California Baptist baseball program sweep the major position player awards for the 2025 season. True freshman Chris Ramirez stunned with a Defensive Player of the Year nod, while also being named Freshman of the Year. To no one's surprise, Nicholas Dumesnil was deemed WAC Player of the Year and earned first-team honors for his impressive season. Cody New was CBU's final award recipient, finishing as an All-WAC First Team honoree.
Ramirez finished his freshman season with a .360 batting average with 71 hits, 44 runs, nine doubles, and two triples. The freshman dominated at the plate during his collegiate debut, posting a .435 on-base percentage and plating 30 RBI. In addition, he recorded 80 putouts and 129 assists as the Lancers' go to shortstop this season. Ramirez helped lead Gary Adcock's defense to the most putouts in the WAC, while also catching the most runners stealing (30) and the second most double plays at 48. The freshman shortstop also appeared in every game this season and was a staple in the lineup, moving from the nine hole to leadoff as the season carried on. The dual award for Ramirez marks the first time a CBU baseball player has been named both the Freshman and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season, and is Adcock's second FOTY and his third DPOTY.
Entering the season as the WAC Preseason Player of the Year amongst numerous accolades, Dumesnil delivered another fantastic season to secure his first major postseason award. The junior was extremely fun to watch in the outfield, pulling out unreal diving catches and even robbing a home run throughout the year, while also recording four outfield assists for the Lancers. Dumesnil also turned on the jets this season, totaling 27 stolen bases for the most in the CBU Baseball Division I Era. At the plate, he posted a .350 batting average to end the regular season with 10 home runs and 20 doubles. The outfielder also totaled 82 hits with 52 runs and a team-high 57 RBI to top off his stunning third season in a CBU jersey. Dumesnil is the second Lancer in program history to be named WAC Player of the Year, behind Damon Keith, who was awarded the same honor in 2021.
New picked up his first postseason honor on Tuesday afternoon as well after earning a spot on the All-WAC First Team after his solid sophomore season from the mound. New posted 91 strikeouts, while limiting batters to a .221 batting average across 74 innings. The lefty ends the regular season with a 3.77 ERA and a 6-3 pitching record with one save. Both Ramirez and Dumesnil were also named to the WAC Defensive Team for their efforts on the diamond, marking the fourth and fifth Lancers to be awarded the honor.
