Liam Jones Wraps Up Week One as WAC Player of the Week

RIVERSIDE --- With just one week on American soil, freshman Liam Jones is already gaining the attention of his peers as the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) named him the first WAC Player of the Week of the 2025 season.
In two matches, Jones has netted three goals, adding one assist, giving him seven points on the year.
Jones made a splash in his collegiate debut, scoring two goals in two minutes during the Lancers' opening night win over American. Jones entered the match in the 35th minute, and within two minutes of stepping onto the field, he found the back of the net on a left-footed strike from the right edge of the box.
Two minutes later, Jones added a second goal on a breakaway opportunity. He later assisted Stavros Charalampous' game-winning goal in the 65th minute.
The Lancers continued their season on Monday night with a visit to Bakersfield. Jones earned his first collegiate start in the 2-1 victory and accumulated 72 minutes of action. The freshman winger totaled two shots, none bigger than the go-ahead goal he scored in the 65th minute. Jones dribbled around defenders before firing a shot past the extended reach of the goalkeeper.
CBU is off to a 2-0 start, the first in the program's Division I era. The Lancers will continue the season this weekend as Cal Poly comes to Riverside for a Welcome Weekend matchup. The Lancers and Mustangs will battle it out on Saturday night, with kick-off coming at 7 p.m. from CBU Soccer Stadium.
