RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University women's volleyball team will continue its three-game homestand this week as they host Utah Valley and Sacramento State in Van Dyne Gym.
The Lancers are coming off their first two conference wins of the season as they swept their crosstown rivals, the UCR Highlanders, in home and away contests this past weekend. The wins boosted the Lancers to tenth in the Big West standings and were their first back-to-back wins of the season.
The first match of the week will be against the Utah Valley Wolverines on Friday night. The Wolverines and Lancers have an extensive history against one another dating back to their eight-year run as conference opponents in the Western Athletic Conference. This will be the 16th all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Wolverines holding a one-game edge at 8-7. UVU defeated the Lancers in the first matchup of the season in Orem with a reverse sweep of CBU.
The second matchup of the weekend will be on Saturday night against the Sacramento State Hornets. Sac State swept the Lancers in the first all-time meeting between the two programs on September 24 in Sacramento. The Hornets currently occupy the final spot in the conference tournament at 6th place with a 5-5 Big West record. The Hornets have dropped their last three conference matches, with two losses to UVU this past weekend.
The Lancers are coming off a milestone-laden weekend in which several players hit season or career highs against the UCR Highlanders. Anaiya Campbell recorded a career-best 24 kills in the home match against UCR, which tied for the most kills by a freshman in program history and tied for the most in a five-set match in the DI era. Campbell was named the Big West Rookie of the Week for her career night. Setter Maddie Brown recorded a career best 51 assists in both wins against UCR this past weekend, becoming the first Lancer since 2019 to go over 50 assists in a single match. Brown was named the Big West Setter of the Week for the first time due to her efforts.
