RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist tipped off the 2026-27 season on Tuesday night by hosting the North Florida Ospreys inside the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center. In the first official game under coach Kyle Getter, the Lancers began the season on the losing end of a 71-63 final.
Â
Tuesday's loss ends a 19-game unbeaten streak inside the Fowler Events Center, a streak that began at the tail end of the 2024-25 season.
Â
"I thought the crowd was awesome," said Getter following his first appearance in front of the CBU Crazies. A crowd of 3,744 filled the Fowler Events Center for Getter's debut.
Â
"I was eager to see what it was going to be like to coach a game in the Events Center, and the crowd showed up. They did their part. I'm disappointed that we didn't play better, but I'm excited about this group. We have a young group. We have a lot of freshmen, sophomores, a lot of inexperience out there, and we're going to continue to get better each time out."
Â
Sophomore Jordan Muller, one of three returning players who saw playing time during last season's WAC Championship run, led the Lancers in scoring with 15 points. Muller connected on 5-of-10 from the field while dishing out three assists.
Â
Terry Coner Jr. was next on the stat sheet with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting in his CBU debut. Rene D'Amelio led the rebounding column with six.
Â
There were six lead changes throughout Tuesday's battle, but the Lancers' time with the lead was limited as CBU controlled the scoreboard for just 2:10. The Lancers' largest lead of the night was three points, while the Ospreys once led by as many as 11.
Â
CBU ended the night shooting 35 percent from the field but connected on just 4-for-27 from three. Both sides struggled in their distance shooting, as the Ospreys countered CBU with a 6-for-24 showing. By making six threes, North Florida extended their streak of making five or more threes to 130 games, the longest such streak in Division I.
Â
Kent Jackson led the Ospreys in scoring with 15 points. North Florida saw five players close the night in double figures.
Â
The Lancers return to action on Friday, as CBU returns to Corvallis for the second year in a row to take on Oregon State. CBU came out victorious in last year's meeting, edging past the Beavers, 75-69.
Â
"We'll digest the film from tonight, make some adjustments, and certainly point out some areas where we can learn from, but also some positives," added Getter. "Then we've got to turn the page quickly because we play a good Oregon State team on Friday on the road, and we have to be ready to go."
Â
Friday night's action is slated for 6:30 p.m. and can be streamed on the Pac-12 Conference's YouTube page.
