MBB Preview: CBU Visits Corvallis on Friday for First Road Test

CORVALLIS, OR --- California Baptist (0-1) will hit the road for the first time in the regular season as the schedule rolls on to a visit to Corvallis. Coming off a loss on opening night, CBU will look to break even on their opening week as the Lancers take on Oregon State (1-0) for the second season in a row.

The Lancers are off to a 0-1 start for the first time since the 2022-23 season, following a 71-63 loss against North Florida on Tuesday. Sophomore Jordan Muller led the Lancers with 15 points, while senior Terry Coner Jr. contributed 13 in his first game with the Lancers. Rene D'Amelio led CBU with six rebounds.

Tuesday's loss marked the Lancers' first loss inside the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center since February 6, 2025, ending a 19-game unbeaten streak on the Lancers' home floor.

The season opener was also the official debut of head coach Kyle Getter, who was named the second head coach of the Lancers' Division I era back in April.

Of the ten players Getter used on Tuesday night, only two of them saw minutes with CBU during the 2025-26 WAC Championship-winning season. One of those two, Muller, is the only remaining player from last season's CBU team who played inside Corvallis' Gill Coliseum. CBU bested Oregon State last year, 75-69, with Muller scoring 13 points in 40 minutes of action.

Last season's visit to Corvallis was the first ever meeting between these two programs.

The Beavers are off to a hot start this season, following a 102-61 victory over Weber State on Monday. Oregon State saw seven players end the night in double figures, led by Daniel Freitag with 23 points. Freitag was a perfect 12-for-12 at the line.

Xavion Staton recorded a double-double for the Beavers, pairing ten points with a game-leading 13 boards.

Like the Lancers, the Beavers have a new look this season as they are led by first-year head coach Justin Joyner. Joyner, like Getter, has national championship pedigree, having served as an assistant under coach Dusty May during Michigan's run to the national championship last season. Getter has a national championship ring from the 2019 season under coach Tony Bennett at the University of Virginia.

Only one player returns from last season's Oregon State roster, as Joyner brought in 12 newcomers to round out his team. Josiah Lake II, the only returner, scored seven points against the Lancers last year.

Friday's action from Gill Coliseum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and will be streamed on the Pac-12 Conference's YouTube page, free of charge.

Following their visit to Corvallis, the Lancers will return home for a three-game homestand, starting with a visit from Chicago State on November 11.
