RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University women's basketball team will continue to maintain its solo lead atop the Western Athletic Conference standings this week as it welcomes Utah Valley to Riverside for a one-game week.
The Lancers currently sit at 11-2 in conference play, the best mark in the conference, one game ahead of Abilene Christian and two games ahead of Southern Utah as the season winds down. After facing UVU, the Lancers will embark on a critical three-game Texas road trip, facing Tarleton State, UT Arlington, and Abilene Christian, before finishing the season at home against Southern Utah.
The task at hand this week will be defeating the Utah Valley Wolverines, who are 4-8 in conference play and sit in fifth place in the standings. The Wolverines have struggled immensely on the road this season and are still looking for their first conference road win. UVU is coming off a 58-55 home win over Utah Tech last Thursday, sealing the game with its strong defense. UVU still ranks in the top five in steals (2nd) and forced turnovers (5th) in the NCAA and will look to carry that into Wednesday's game. CBU has had the Wolverines' number throughout the series history, holding a 13-3 record, including a perfect 9-0 mark at home. In the previous two matchups this season, the Lancers have won by ana average of 20.5 points per game winning in Orem by ten in late January and by 31 in Riverside in the conference opener in late December.
