AZUSA, CA--- The California Baptist University track team kicked off the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday with a handful of events that included 10K's and the men's steeplechase invite.
Karolina Bliujute and Eleonara Visnevskyte kicked off the day in the morning in the women's 10K. Bliujute finished 15th in her heat with a time of 35:17.51, which was just three seconds off of her personal best that she set at last season's Bryan Clay Inivte. Visnevskyte finished one spot behind her teammate in 16th place with a time of 35:21.62 in her 10K collegiate debut.
In the evening, Ernesto Ruiz competed in the steeplechase for the first time this season after finishing last season as a West Regional qualifier in the event. Ruiz opened up in the second heat of the invite section and would finish 8th in his heat and set a new personal best time at 8:44.47. The time was five seconds faster than his best time that he set at the Franson Invite in Azusa last season. The time would rank in the top 30 in the West Region this season, and it gives Ruiz a great shot at becoming a back-to-back qualifier for West Regionals.
NEXT: The Lancers will return to Cougar Stadium on Friday, April 17, to continue with the Bryan Clay Invitational.
