CBU Drops Road Match in Corvallis to Oregon State

CORVALLIS, OR--- The California Baptist University volleyball team fell in straight sets to begin the ASICS Invitational as they lost to host Oregon State on Thursday night in Corvallis.
The loss drops CBU to 1-2 in the early going of the season while the Beavers improve to 2-2.
The opening set was one to forget for the Lancers, as they were plagued by multiple service and attacking errors that put them behind the eight-ball early on. CBU fell behind by double-digits early in the opening frame and was not able to recover, resulting in a 25-14 victory for the Beavers out of the gate.
The second set was a much better start for the Lancers, as they took an early lead. CBU would get much more efficiency from its hitters, but some costly errors late in the set gave the control back to the Beavers. Oregon State would rattle off a 6-0 run that would shift the momentum and ultimately cause the Lancers to fall behind 2-0 in sets.
The final set went eerily similar to the opening set as Lancer errors proved to be the difference between CBU forcing a fourth set. Oregon State built an early lead off the mistakes and would not relinquish it. The Beavers would hold off a few CBU pushes to the tune of a 25-19 final set score and the sweep in their home opener.
Errors were the problem for CBU on the night, with over 25 in the attacking game and multiple in the service department as well. Nalanie Neal and Audrey Heiring each posted seven kills to lead the way, while Avery Barber had 17 assists and eight digs.
NEXT: The Lancers will remain in Corvallis to take on the Seattle U Redhawks on Friday afternoon at 2 PM at Gill Coliseum.
