Blair Penner was named the California Baptist University assistant women's volleyball coach in 2011.
Penner joined the coaching ranks after a stellar career as a setter for the CBU men's volleyball team. In 2011, his first season on the coaching staff, Penner was named National Christian College Athletic Association Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. With Penner on board, the CBU women have posted a 173-83 record since 2011.
In five seasons with the Lancers, Penner was a part of three NAIA championships and was named 2010 AVCA/NAIA Player of the Year. He also earned AVCA/NAIA first-team All-American honors in 2010 and 2011. After red-shirting the 2007 season, Penner helped lead the Lancers to at least the championship match at the NAIA National Invitational in all four of his final seasons, winning the 2010 and 2011 titles.
Penner finished his career as the Lancers' all-time assist leader, with 4,065, and all-time aces leader, with 188. He also set the program's single season record with 1,524 assists in 2009 and holds the single match assist record with 81. He was inducted into CBU's Athletic Hall of Fame in May 2017.
Penner earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from CBU in 2010 and earned his master's in sports management in December 2011.
