The win is the Cougars' second in as many nights over the Lancers as they improve to 2-0 to start the season. The Lancers, meanwhile, fall to 0-3 with all 3 losses coming to the top 2 Division I teams.
The Cougars had a whopping 22 service errors but made up for it with a balanced and efficient attack. Freshmen Robbie Stowell and Andrew Stewart led the way with 17 and 16 kills, respectively. As a team, the Cougars hit .338 (71-25-136), recording 71 kills compared to the Lancers' 44.
Yukai Sun had 12 kills and was the only other Lancer in double figures. Corey Spence had 11 digs to go along with 7 kills.
Unlike last night, BYU got rolling early opening up a 17-10 lead, which eventually increased to 25-14. CBU answered with a 10-4 run, but Sun's serve on game point went into the net, giving the Cougars the opening game.
The Cougars broke a 6-6 tie with 5 straight points in the second game, and then opened up a healthy 19-11 advantage they never relinquished. After hitting .459 in the opening game, BYU hit .438 in the second.
The third game was back-and-forth. Down 3-0, the Lancers used a 6-1 to take their first lead of the match. The teams then traded leads until the Lancers broke a 20-20 tie with 5 straight points. After combining for just 8 attack errors in the first 2 games, BYU had 11 in the third game and the Lancers took advantage.
In the fourth and deciding game, the score was close until a Stewart kill ended a 5-1 BYU spurt that gave the Cougars a 22-16 lead.
