SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- Westmont scored two first half goals and made them stand in posting a 2-0 win over California Baptist Saturday in the Lancers' season-finale.
The loss is the Lancers' seventh straight to close the season as the finish 6-10-1 overall, 2-8-0 (6 points) GSAC. Meanwhile, the Warriors all but locked up the eighth and final playoff spot in next week's NAIA Region II Playoffs. They improve to 8-7-0, 4-6-0 (12 points).
Westmont out-shot the Lancers, 11-5, on the day, including a hefty 10-3 margin the first half when it did its damage. Sammy Montemer put the Warriors on the board in the 18th minute when he converted a Johnathon Schoff cross.
Then, in the 35th minute, Schoff connected with Dan Sargent, who gave the Warriors their two-goal lead.
The teams combined for just three shots in the second half, and Warrior keeper Justin Etherton made the only save of the half. CBU keeper Adam Kramer made four saves on the day.
