COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? California Baptist pushed its winning streak to 12 in-a-row before No. 15 University of Pacific brought it to an end Saturday at the USAFA East Meets West Tournament. The Lancers (14-7) opened the weekend with a 12-8 win over California Lutheran before they fell to the Tigers, 19-13. Jon Miller broke the school record for saves after he recorded 17 saves between the two games. He now has 825 saves.
CBU didn't need a fourth quarter comeback, but held off a charging California Lutheran offense as the Lancers won their 12th straight game with the win over the Kingsmen. Josh Harris scored four goals to lead CBU while Jeff Woolstenhulme, Jason Bills, Ryan Steiger, Alex Shorts, Scott Gleason, Aaron Steiger, Alan Ogden and Chris Morgan all had solo goals. Miller and Zach Bowman shared duties in goal as Miller had nine saves while Bowman had three. The Lancers took a 5-3 lead through the first quarter and pushed the lead to 9-5 at the half. CBU shutout Cal Lutheran 3-0 in the third quarter and then held off the Kingsmen down the stretch as CLU scored three consecutive goals in the fourth. Pacific scored six goals in each of the opening quarters and held a 12-5 lead at the half, but CBU came out gunning in the second half and scored five straight goals to cut the lead to 12-10, but Pacific proved to be too tough down the stretch as the Tigers answered with two goals in third and put five more goals on the board in the fourth. Aaron Steiger led the way with four goals, one assist and two steals. Ryan Steiger had three goals while Brad Vincent scored a pair of goals and Ogden had one. Miller recorded eight saves which put him past Adam Sherwood for the most saves in CBU history. Miller has already recorded 215 saves this year. CBU returns to action tomorrow when it takes on Air Force at 8 a.m. and then will play either at 1 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. depending on the outcome of the game with the Falcons. If CBU beats USAFA it will have a rematch with Pacific at 2:30 p.m. in the championship game, but will play CLU if it loses.
