RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University head tennis coach Chris Taylor has announced the addition of a pair of players for the upcoming 2009 women's season.
“The women have established a tradition of success as they continue to climb to the top of the NAIA ranks,” said Taylor. “We lost some strong players from last year's group, but I am confident that our girls will continue their pursuit of success, and the addition of these two girls will certainly help.”
Jelena Savic, Freshman, Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Savic was a top-ranked junior in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Jelena is a very gifted player,” said Taylor. “While she has a reserved personality off the court, she is a fighter on the court.”
Aurelie Hascoet, Freshman, Thann, France
Hascoet was a top-ranked junior in France.
“Aurelie will add needed depth to the women's team,” said Taylor. “She brings an intelligent game to the court and we are anticipating her to have an immediate impact.”
Savic and Hascoet join Raquel Vescovi, who enrolled at CBU in the fall.
“Raquel is a talented lefty,” said Taylor. “She has already shown tremendous improvement since coming and it will be exciting to watch how the girls bond together and continue to pursue excellence.”
Last season, the Lancers finished 14-8 overall, were ranked as high as No. 5 before finishing the season ranked No. 6, and they advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament in their first trip. The Lancers return four starters from last year's unit.
