AZUSA, Calif. --- National-power and No. 5-ranked Azusa Pacific won two of three doubles and edged out No. 10 California Baptist in women's tennis action Saturday afternoon.
The loss is the Lancers' first of the season as they fall to 1-1 overall, 0-1 GSAC. The Cougars improve to 3-1, 1-0.
The Lancers came within inches of stealing two points in doubles' play, but Bay Daniels and Sheryl Bon rebounded from a 7-5 deficit to slip past Marcela Montanha and Dunya Wren, 9-7, at No. 1. The Lancers won at No. 2, 8-6, but failed to hold a 6-4 lead at No. 3 before falling 8-6.
In singles' play, the Lancers won at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 to make things interesting, but the Cougars were able to win each of the three matches at the bottom half of the lineup to do just enough to stave off the upset bid.
