FULLERTON, Calif. ? Adiel Tiedjop tied a career high 28 kills and added 10 digs for a double-double for California Baptist in a 3-1 (30-21, 25-30, 34-32, 30-26) win over Hope International.
The Lancers (6-7) break a three-game losing streak with the win over the Royals (4-10).
Corey Spence also was in double figures with 19 kills and added five digs. Eric Plunkett dished out a match-high 58 assists. On the defensive side, Plunkett and Jeff Black led the way as each picked up five blocks. Blair Penner notched four blocks as the Lancers recorded 13 total team blocks.
The Lancers opened the match hitting .423 (15-4-26), but hit under .100 in the second game before closing it out with a .366 and a .273 in the final two games.
CBU cruised in the opening game and cruised after it broke a 7-7 tie with a 10-2 run. The Lancers had a 17-17 tie in the second game, but the Royals went on a short 3-1 run to take a 21-18 lead. CBU cut it to 22-21, but HIU closed the game out with an 8-4 run including the final three points to tie the match at 1-1.
The Lancers survived game three thanks to Tiedjop's final two kills that broke a 32-32 tie. CBU was in danger of heading into a fifth and deciding game trailing 18-16, but the Lancers used a 12-5 run to take a comfortable lead at 28 before CBU scored its final points on a Spence kill and a Royal error.
The Lancers will now get set to host Lees McRae, Thursday, at 4 p.m.
