RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? California Baptist got a game-high 19 points from Nicole Davis in a 65-55 win over Fresno Pacific. The Lancers (13-7, 7-6) break a two-game losing streak with the win over the Sunbirds (8-16, 1-13).
“You see it not only in this game, but in almost every game we play that the GSAC is so tough every night,” said CBU head coach Danelle Bishop. “It just shows every night you have to come ready to play. It's real important for us to stay in good shape. We've done a great job with who we are able to put on the floor.”
Davis was 7-of-14 from the floor, 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, and was 3-for-4 at the line. The junior was also just one assist shy of a double-double with nine.
Bryana Williams and Romeka Randolph also scored in double figures. Williams dumped in 11 and grabbed eight boards while Randolph scored 10 points. The Lancers pulled down 34 boards as a team.
“Rebounding is a huge focus everyday in practice,” said Bishop. “Even though we average the second most rebounds in the conference, we still feel we need to do a better job on the boards, especially when we play bigger teams.”
CBU was 23-for-52 from the field and 7-of-19 from three-point range. The Lancers also hit 12 of their 17 attempts from the charity stripe.
The Lancers trailed just once in the game at 4-2 before going on a 12-4 run to take a 14-6 lead. CBU led by nine twice in the first half, 24-15 and 27-18, with each lead being taken on treys. Erin Greenberg gave the Lancers a 24-15 lead with 3:48 left before Davis put CBU up nine with 2:45 left. FPU closed it to four with 1:39 left, but Davis hit a jumper with five seconds left to give the Lancers a 29-23 halftime lead.
The Lancers opened the second half on a 14-7 run to take a 41-28 lead. Davis gave CBU its biggest lead of the game at 53-37 with 11:20 left. FPU used a 6-0 run to cut it to 53-44 and got within six (58-52) with 3:24 left, but CBU hit five of its last six attempts from the line in the final minutes to secure the win.
CBU will now prepare for No. 3 Point Loma Nazarene, a team that Lancers just missed taking to overtime in San Diego, Calif. Tip-off is scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
