LA MIRADA, Calif. ? The road to the national tournament took a detour for No. 25 California Baptist, Saturday night, with a 72-68 loss to Biola. The Lancers (13-8) now face the reality of dropping out of Wednesday's top 25 poll after the loss to the unranked Eagles (6-18, 3-11).
Shooting woes again plagued CBU as the Lancers hit 39.3 percent from the field (24-for-61) and were 8-of-29 from three-point range. California Baptist was also just 12-of-21 from the charity stripe.
Nicole Davis did score a game-high 23 points to go with her six assists. Megan Bradford was also in double figures scoring 13 points to tie her season-high. CBU turned the ball over half as much as Biola giving up just 11 turnovers compared to the Eagles' 22, but the Eagles hit almost 50 percent from the field going 27-for-57 from the floor and 7-of-17 from beyond the arc.
CBU trailed by just two at 11-9 with 9:27 left in the first half, but the Eagles used a 17-4 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 28-13 with 4:59 left in the half.
The Lancers answered with a 10-0 run to get within five with 2:29 left, but Biola pushed the lead back to 10, 39-29, at halftime.
After the Eagles took a 41-29 lead at the start of the second half, the Lancers closed the gap quickly and eventually took the lead with a 24-9 run to take a 53-49 lead with 13:29 left to play. Bradford had eight points in that stretch alone.
The lead changed hands two more times before the Lancers took their last lead at 66-63 on a Bryana Williams jumper. Biola's Elise Paty tied the game at 66 with a three with 2:13 left before Jessilyn Conicelli put the game out of reach with a pair of jumpers.
CBU will now prepare to host Hope International, Tuesday, inside Van Dyne Gym at 5:30 p.m.
