PHOENIX, Ariz. --- Levi Cabral had a match-high 15 kills, and the California Baptist University men's volleyball team rolled to a 30-22, 30-26, 30-27 victory over host Grand Canyon University on Friday night in Phoenix.
Cabral hit .462 for the NAIA's top-ranked Lancers, who wrap up a two-match trip to Arizona with another match against GCU Saturday.
CBU improved to 11-5 on the season. Grand Canyon falls to 5-12.
California Baptist, which was coming off a loss to Long Beach State in which it did not play well offensively, rebounded with a solid night, hitting at a .355 clip in the straight-set victory.
The Lancers hit .533 in the opening game, committing just two attack errors in 30 chances.
Despite hitting just .114 in the second game, the Lancers played well defensively and held Grand Canyon to a .000 clip. GCU had 11 kills and 11 errors in the frame.
CBU responded with a strong third game, hitting .464 and notching just three attack errors in the game to close things out. CBU trailed, 20-16, in the third game before closing on a 14-7 run.
Mohamed Khattab, who closed the match out with a kill, had 11 kills for CBU, which had 12.5 blocks. Ricky Brazee had nine kills and just one error on 14 chances for CBU. Blair Penner had 41 assists for the Lancers.
The Lancers did not allow an ace on the evening. Daniel Freitas had a match-high nine digs for CBU.
Chris Lockwood had 13 kills and Brock Hutchins had 11 for Grand Canyon.
