RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University scored four second half goals to run away from NCAA Division III Chapman for a 5-1 non-conference win Wednesday.
The win improves the Lancers to 3-1 on the season, matching their start from the 2008 season. The Panthers fall to 0-1.
Tiburcio Casillas scored twice. Osvaldo Bastida finished
with three assists.
CBU out-shot the Panthers, 11-3, in the first half but was
only able to put one of them away. With the ball bouncing around in the box
after a Lancer corner kick, Bastida tapped it to Garcia, who tucked away his
second goal of the year in the 16th minute.
The Lancers finished with a hefty 25-7 shot advantage, and 15 of their 25 shots were on frame.
Hanging on to its one-goal advantage, the floodgates finally opened in the 57th minute. Tim Wardell was brought down in the box, and Willie Rupert belted in the penalty kick to make it 2-0.
Eight minutes later, Casillas scored the first of two goals in a four-minute span, both of them assisted by Bastida. The first one came in the 65th minute. Alex Anderson carried the ball into the right side of the area and slid a ball into the middle. Bastida found it and played it to Casillas, who scored his first goal of the year. He gave the Lancers a 4-0 lead in the 69th minute.
After Chapman got on the board with a 79th minute strike from Dalton Sweaney, Wardell capped the Lancer barrage in the 87th minute. The senior got a well-played ball from defender Jared Dusha and slid around the charging keeper and walked the ball into the net.
Jeff Redinger made the only save for the Lancers before being lifted in the 68th minute for Joey Pacheco.
