FULLERTON, Calif. --- It wasn't a home match, but a return to the Golden State did No. 1 California Baptist University a world of good, as CBU downed Hope International 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) in Fullerton.
After dropping a pair of matches in Hawaii, Levi Cabral and Sebastien Steigmeier each posted 14 kills to help CBU cruise to victory in just over an hour.
With the Royals rallying late, Three-straight points late in the third set proved key in preserving the sweep. Cabral ripped a kill to prevent Hope International from evening the score and two-straight errors gave the Lancers a 19-15 lead.
In each of the first two games, CBU took early leads and held them en route to quick wins.
The Lancers hit .360 in the match, with 13 players seeing the court.
After Cabral and Steigmeier's double-digit nights, Aaron McCalmont had the most effective offensive match hitting .625 with five kills on eight attempts. Blair Penner had 24 assists and Filip Tomicic added 13. Cabral also had a match-high 11 digs.
The Royals hit .250 in the match and were led by Andrew Speth with 10 kills. Henry Valiente had 10 digs for the home team.
CBU moves to 11-5 with the win and Hope International falls to 4-10.
The Lancers make their return to the Van Dyne Gym Thursday against No. 3 Lindenwood. CBU's next six matches will be at home.
