CARSON, Calif. --- Jessica Murphy scored in the 37th minute, and Cal State Dominguez Hills made it stand in a 1-0 non-conference win over California Baptist University Saturday night in Carson.
The loss is the Lancers' first of the season as they fall to 1-1. The Toros
improve to 1-0.
Murphy scored on a throw-in, heading the game's only goal. Colleen McNamee was credited with the assist.
The Lancers pushed forward looking for the equalizer, launching an assault in the waning minutes peppering Marissa Graska, the Toro keeper, with a trio of shots with the clock winding down. Graska, who was inserted at halftime, made four saves, three of them in the final 17 minutes.
Graska saved back-to-back shots from All-Americans Fabiola Zanella da Silva and Kylee Nicassio. Kimberly Allard's shot in the 89th minute went just wide and the Toros held on. Nicassio and Allard combined for 11 of the Lancers' 12 shots.
The Toros outshot the Lancers, 18-12, but the Lancers had a slim 7-6 advantage of shots on goal.
