CALDWELL, Idaho --- Kylee Nicassio scored twice, and Fabiola Zanella da Silva had two assists to lead California Baptist University to a 4-0 non-conference win at College of Idaho Saturday afternoon.
The win is the Lancers' second straight as they win both matches in Idaho to move to 3-1 overall. The Yotes take their first loss of the year to fall to 2-1.
"It's always tough to play on the road, but we played very well today," said CBU Head Coach Kristen St. Clair. "We're getting healthier and our performances are getting better each game. This was a good trip as we get closer to starting conference play."
The Lancers, who out-shot the Yotes, 20-7, got on the board in the fifth minute and never looked back, taking a 3-0 lead after the first 45 minutes.
Mikala Gillis and Lindsay Vesling both scored their first collegiate goals, bookending a pair of goals around a pair from Nicassio, who moved into fifth place on the Lancers' career list with her 36th career goal.
Gillis and da Silva found themselves two-on-one just 4:57 after the first whistle, and Gillis flicked in her first career tally to the right corner of the goal. Nicassio then scored both of her goals exactly three minutes apart.
Her first goal was assisted by Kimberly Allard, who has tallied at least one point in each of the Lancers' three wins this year. Da Silva assisted Nicassio's second strike, which she headed off the crossbar and past Yote keeper Meli Holmes-Joseph.
Vesling then rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 59th minute off an assist from Kristen Witchey.
"Our
possession and ability to penetrate their defense and create opportunities were
great today," said St. Clair. "We went into another gear and were combining
well and moving off the ball well, which enabled us to get quality chances."
Nicoline Jorgensen and Rosie Nakata combined to make five saves in getting the Lancers' second shutout of the season.
