The loss drops the defending NCCAA National Champion Lancers to 13-5-2. They now have to sweat out the next 24 hours to see if they can grab the lone at-large berth available to this year's national tournament.
The Sunbirds improve to 16-4, earning the region's automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championship Nov. 28-Dec. 1 in Kissimmee, Fla.
Islas scored twice. His first one came at the 5:07 mark when he scored on a breakaway after a turnover by the Lancers. His second goal made it 3-0 in the 74th minute and was the second in a 43 second span for the Sunbirds to put the game away.
The Lancers outshot the Sunbirds 17-12 and actually took 15 of the first 20 shots. However, they weren't able to tuck one in until Tyler Garrison scored his fourth of the season in the 84th minute. It was too little too late.
Chris Young scored in the 73rd minute to give the Sunbirds a 2-0 lead.
