PROVO, Utah --- California Baptist University came within one game Friday night, as it fell to No. 3 Brigham Young University in five sets.
CBU lost (22-25, 17-25, 25-17, 25-14, 15-10), as this was the second game in two days the Lancers have forced to five sets.
Aaron McCalmont led the Lancers with 19 kills, 10 digs, and two blocks. He managed a .125 hitting percentage on the match. Kristopher Johnson recorded 12 kills on 18 attempts and only had one error. Johnson finished hitting .611 on the match, with three digs and two blocks.
Josue Rivera led BYU, as he tallied 14 kills on 35 attempts, hitting .314 on the match.
The Lancers had a total of 29 kills in the first and second set, but only managed a total of 22 kills in the third, fourth, and fifth sets. The Lancers finished the match hitting .126, while the Cougars finished hitting .245.
After the Lancers won the first two sets in the match, the Cougars got red-hot hitting above .300 for the rest of the match to secure the victory.
The Lancers and Cougars each had 50 assists as a team. Connor Metcalfe recorded 45 of the 50 assists in the match for CBU. The Lancers out-dug the Cougars 57-46, but the Cougars out-blocked the Lancers 14-6 on the match.
CBU (3-11) will face BYU (9-3) tomorrow night at 6 pm (PST).
