The Crimson handed CBU a 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19) loss, the team's third this road trip. It was Harvard's fifth straight win to open the season.
The Lancers kept it close through much of the opening set before falling by five.
Both teams hit above .400 in the first game, with the Lancers out-hitting the Crimson .455-.405. A timely 6-3 run to end the game gave Harvard the win, though.
CBU wasted no time evening the match, with an impressive second game win. The Lancers recorded 15 kills to just 11 for the Crimson, finding a timely run of their own to close out the second. CBU scored five of the last six points to take the win and even the match at 1-1.
The rubber game became the deciding factor as it so often does in 1-1 matches on Wednesday night.
After the Crimson jumped out to a 4-0 lead, CBU inched its way back and evened the set at 15-15. With the score tied the home team found the few key points it needed for the win, going up 18-16 on a CBU error and kills by Nick Madden and Matt Jones.
The teams would play even for the next 14 points as Harvard got the two point win.
Aaron McCalmont led the way for CBU with 17 kills and a .367 hitting percentage. Daniel Freitas scored a season high 12 kills to go along with six digs. McCalmont also led the team with 10 digs.
Filling in for injured starter Connor Metcalfe, Kevin Kustura recorded 43 assists.
Jones led Harvard with 22 kills.
The Crimson out-blocked the Lancers 11.0-5.5 and held a slight edge with a .398 hitting percentage.
CBU makes one more stop on its East Coast swing, competing in the Volleyball hall of Fame Classic in Springfield, Mass. this weekend.
The Lancers look to improve their 2-8 record with a pair of games at the classic.
