In what looked like a replay of the two teams' match earlier this season, CBU battled back after falling behind 2-0, but lost 15-11 in the final set.
The Lancers dropped a pair of 25-19 sets to open the night and seemed left for dead on the road.
CBU wouldn't go quietly, however, fighting back to win 26-24 in the third and then dominating the fourth 25-16 to force a decisive fifth set.
In a third game that went back and forth, CBU scored four straight points to go up 22-19, getting two big blocks during the run.
The Lancers held set point 24-23, but were stopped by a kill from UCI's Kevin Tillie. CBU bounced right back, getting a right handed smash from Levi Cabral then an error by Tillie to take the game.
It was all CBU in the fourth as the Lancers ripped 11 kills and hit a match best .241. UCI hit just .094 in the game and had seven errors.
When the teams met back in January in Riverside to open the conference season, CBU came back from down 2-0 to force a fifth game, winning 15-13. Wednesday that was not to be.
After the Lancers went up 7-6 in the fifth, UCI went on a 6-2 run to take a four-point lead. CBU never had time for a comeback as the teams traded the next four points to give the Anteaters the win.
Guilherme Koepp led the Lancers with 17 kills and 12 digs for his fourth double-double of the season. Rocky DeLyon posted nine kills and a .564 hitting percentage.
Tillie led UCI with 13 kills and Zack LaCavera had 12.
The Lancers fall to 6-9 overall, 3-7 MPSF with the loss and UCI improves to 15-3, 12-3.
CBU hosts UC San Diego on Friday in the team's third conference matchup of the week.
