The Lancers took the 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-21) win in relatively easy fashion, scoring their first sweep of the 2013 season.
"We needed a match like this to get back on track," said Head Coach Wes Schneider, whose team snapped a four match losing streak with the victory. "There is still plenty we can work on and improve, but this was a good win tonight. Now we need to carry some momentum out of it."
CBU posted its fourth highest hitting percentage of the season in the win, hitting .338 and held UCSD to just a .139 attacking clip, the lowest of any opponent this year.
The teams played toe-to-toe through the first 19 points of the opening game, but CBU came up with four straight points to take a 23-19 lead and all but seal the win.
Brett Anderson dumped a kill to start the run off and then fed Aaron McCalmont for a smash to put CBU up two. McCalmont then combined on a block with Rocky DeLyon, before Guilherme Koepp capped the run with a rip of his own.
The Lancers dominated play in the second game, committing just two errors and hitting .522 on 14 kills.
In the third CBU had to come back from an early 9-6 deficit, rattling off a 7-2 run to take the lead for good.
McCalmont posted four kills and no errors in the final game to lead CBU.
Overall it was Levi Cabral doing the heavy lifting offensively Friday night, posting 11 kills on 24 attempts and no errors. McCalmont and Koepp each had eight. Michael Cate led CBU with eight digs.
No UCSD player had double digit kills in the match, as Cheyne Hayes led the team with eight. Chase Frishman posted 11 digs for the Tritons.
CBU out-blocked UCSD 9.5-1.5 in the match getting six from DeLyon, his second highest total of the season.
The win moves the Lancers to 7-9 overall, 4-7 MPSF and drops UCSD to 6-12, 3-10.
