RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Hoping to pick up where they left off, California Baptist University is gearing up for a new season. Last year, the Lancers finished the season 46-13 and made their first NCAA Division II postseason run.
This year, the Lancers open action at home against local rival Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday, Feb. 4. The doubleheader jumpstarts the season that holds 16 PacWest doubleheaders, including a trip to the Hawaiian Islands.
CBU will also partake in two elite tournaments: the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Leadoff Classic Invite and the Desert Stinger Tournament. The NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic takes place in Tucson, Ariz., on Feb. 6 and 7, marking the first time the Lancers will participate. CBU returns to the Desert Stinger Tournament for the second year in a row after going a perfect 5-0 last season.
PacWest action opens on Friday, Feb. 21, as the Lancers host Holy Names, the team they defeated last year to win the PacWest Conference Championship. The doubleheader begins a three-game conference stint before CBU hops on a plane to head to Hawaii. On the islands, the Lancers face all four schools, taking on Chaminade (March 6, 7), Hawaii Pacific (March 7) and BYU-Hawaii (March 11) on Oahu before taking a plane to the Big Island for Hawaii-Hilo (March 13, 14).
Back on the mainland, the Lancers face rival Azusa Pacific at home on March 21 and then at the Cougars' field on April 11. CBU also takes on two non-conference opponents with another matchup against the CSUSB Coyotes (in San Bernardino on March 31) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (in Carson on April 14).
The Lancers, will conclude the regular season at home, hosting PacWest foe Dominican on April 24 and 25, with hopes of making another postseason run.
