In The Hunt

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Despite having to battle two opponents in BYU-Hawaii and the heat Saturday afternoon, California Baptist University was in the hunt, just couldn't find the back of the net.
The Lancers fell 1-0 to the Seasiders, dropping to 4-6-1 overall and an even 3-3-0 in the PacWest. BYUH improves to 4-6-0, 2-3-0 in conference.
Gio Rodriguez gave the Lancers two quick opportunities to open the game, with one taking a deflection and the other missing just wide.
Twenty minutes into the game CBU looked like it'd break through as Junior Guerra put a shot on frame, but the Seasider goalkeeper made the save to keep it scoreless.
BYUH would be the one to break the drought, however, capitalizing in the 24th minute.
Coming out of halftime, the Lancers brought in some fresh legs off the bench in Cobi Hunt and Matthew Bernard. The two helped created more chances on offense, but still the Seasider backline kept the home team out of the net.
Hunt got a good look at the goal in the 81st minute, perhaps CBU's best chance at the equalizer, as he sent a floater on frame from distance. The shot was just a little too strong, however, pinging off the crossbar.
The Lancers turned on the high pressure, desperate to keep the game alive, but despite making their way down on offense, CBU couldn't find the back of the net to end the game with the 1-0 defeat.
CBU will look to bounce back on the road as it heads to rival Azusa Pacific for a late, 7:30 p.m. kick off on Thursday.
