LA MIRADA, Calif. – A pentathlon concluded California Baptist University's weekend at the PCSC Invite on Saturday at the La Mirada Splash! Regional Aquatics Center.
The Lancers finished second in the event overall with 155 points, with Emily Longfellow by winning one of the pentathlon events to wrap up her first weekend with the Lancers.
Longfellow, a sophomore transfer from the University of Houston, won the pentathlon that included the 100-yard butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle and 200 individual medley with a combined time of six minutes, 7.63 seconds, which was almost nine seconds better than runner-up Bavi Basra of Fresno Pacific.
Longfellow won four of those five events: the 100 fly (58.64), 100 back (58.82), 100 breast (1:06.47) and 200 IM (2:08.60). Christie Halverson also took third in that pentathlon after she finished third in the 100 fly (59.80), 100 back (1:01.09) and 200 IM (2:12.41) and eighth in the 100 breast (1:12.28).
Mackenzie Mergel finished second in the freestyle pentathlon, which included the 50, 200, 500, 100 and 25 freestyles, with an overall time of 8:29.82. Mergel took second in both the 200 free in 1:53.91 and 500 free (5:02.93). Her 500 free time was good for an NCAA Division II B cut, which is set at 5:06.05, while her 200-free time was less than .30 of a second off a consideration time.
