Heading into Break with Momentum

LA MIRADA, Calif. — In the last game before the holiday break, California Baptist University spread some Christmas cheer to the Lancer nation with an 80-63 win at Biola – CBU's third-straight victory.
The Lancers improve to 9-2 overall, 3-1 in the PacWest. The Eagles drop to 5-7 on the year, but keep looking for their first PacWest win, sitting 0-5 in conference.
Jordan Heading led CBU with 21 points on the night, shooting 7-for-13. Kalidou Diouf followed with 18 points (7-for-13) and chipped in a game-high 14 rebounds for the double-double. Freshman Ty Rowell finished the night with 10 points (4-for-10) and five assists. De'jon Davis wasn't too far off a double-double, ending with eight points (4-for-5) and seven rebounds, helping CBU out-rebound Biola 40-to-27.
The Eagles scored the first points of the night, but CBU responded with an 8-3 run to take its first lead of the night. Diouf evened the score at 2-2 and then back-to-back treys from Heading and Cory Lange put the Lancers in front 8-5 and they never looked back.
It turned into an 11-point lead as Rowell rattled in a triple of his own, 19-8, before Biola managed to trim the lead down to six, 20-14.
CBU keyed in on defense and went off on a 13-0 spurt to give the Lancers some distance. Diouf sparked the run with a layup off a Davis assist, before sinking two shots at the charity stripe.
The Lancers wouldn't allow Biola second looks off the glass, snatching up crucial defensive rebounds to keep the run going. Davis drove to the basket and Diouf rattled in a three to put his team up by 15. Rowell found a lane in CBU's next possession, before Matt Hubbard stole the ball away and Diouf banked it in to force an Eagle timeout, 35-14.
CBU walked into halftime with a commanding 41-19 lead and carried that momentum into the second half. Gabe Taylor scored the first points of the second half, leading the Lancers to a 5-0 start to the frame.
It pretty much tapped Biola out as the Eagles wouldn't pull closer than a 16-point margin, ultimately falling 80-63 to the Lancers.
CBU takes time off to enjoy Christmas before returning to action on December 30 for a non-conference matchup against Simpson. The Lancers and Red Hawks tip off at 7:00 p.m. in the CBU Events Center.
