Lancers Close Out Bryan Clay Invite Strong

AZUSA, Calif. — California Baptist University closed out the Bryan Clay Invitational Friday, keeping pace as the postseason inches closer.
James Atwell and Anthony Avila finished right after one another in the 800-meter, clocking in in one minute, 56.52 seconds and 1:56.59, respectively. Both times were good enough to secure the Lancers spots at the PacWest Championship Meet in two weeks, while Atwell did so with a personal-best performance.
Dennis Messmer was just four seconds off a provisional mark in the 1500-meter, finishing in 3:55.68. William Ernst took seventh in his heat, crossing the finish line in 3:56.10, while Michael Lowrie — who doubled up after running the 5K the day before — grabbed a time of 4:00.79, just milliseconds off a personal record. All three Lancers guaranteed their spots in the PacWest Championship Meet, however.
Mirco Zenzen posted a time of 4:03.71 and Jonah Ross rounded out the Lancers with a time of 4:05.23.
CBU has one meet left before the conference championship held in San Diego at Point Loma April 28-29, heading to the Triton Classic next week at UC San Diego.
