RIVERSIDE, Calif. — With excitement of the new Events Center and upcoming 2017-18 season building, California Baptist University released its men's basketball schedule Tuesday afternoon.
For the first time, CBU Athletics has announced a season ticket campaign, allowing fans to secure their seat for the entire basketball season in the new Events Center. Fans can purchase various levels at cbulancers.com/seasontickets.
"We are excited about this year's men's and women's basketball schedules," said Director of Athletics Dr. Micah Parker. "Some of the highlights in the schedules include hosting two tournaments, a very competitive non-conference schedule and our first ever basketball homecoming game. Our PacWest schedule that includes some great rivalries including Azusa Pacific, Dixie State, Point Loma and Concordia."
The Lancers tip off the season at home on Nov. 10 in the brand new Events Center with the Lancers Tipoff Challenge. CBU hosts Cal State Dominguez Hills in its home opener at 7:00 p.m. Friday night, before taking on Cal State L.A. the next day at 3:00 p.m.
CBU has seven non-conference home games scheduled before it begins its final season in the PacWest. The Lancers will be transitioning to NCAA Division I beginning the 2018-19 season and competing in the Western Athletic Conference.
The Lancers host Colorado Christian on November 15 and fellow Division II powerhouse UC San Diego on Nov. 18, both slated for a 7:00 p.m. tip. Non-conference action continues with Western New Mexico coming to town on the 21st and concludes with the Lancers' annual Thanksgiving Classic, Nov. 24-25, where they face Missouri S&T for the first time in program history and Saint Martin's.
PacWest action opens in Hawaii this year as CBU heads to Hawaii-Hilo first on November 30 and hops over to the island of Oahu the next day for a game against Chaminade on December 2.
When CBU returns to the mainland, the Lancers host Point Loma and Dixie State on consecutive Saturdays. The Monday after the Trailblazers, CBU heads to La Mirada, Calif., for the first time since its NAIA days to take on a familiar face in Biola – the Eagles and Lancers used to compete against each other in the GSAC.
The 2017 portion of the season comes to a close on December 30 as the Lancers host Simpson University in their last non-conference matchup.
January through February things start picking up as CBU is in the thick of its conference schedule. The Lancers host rival Azusa Pacific on January 13 at 7:00 p.m. and go to the Cougars on Jan. 25. Last year, CBU swept the series against APU by an average margin of 17 points.
In February, CBU opens the month with a string of five-straight home games as Concordia (CA), Notre Dame de Namur, Academy of Art, Biola (Homecoming, Feb. 10) and Chaminade all make trips to Riverside. The Lancers close out the regular season up north, traveling to Fresno Pacific on Feb. 17 and the Bay Area the following week for matchups at Dominican (Feb. 22) and Holy Names (Feb. 24).
CBU's final Division II postseason run begins at home this year as the CBU Events Center will play host to the PacWest Conference Tournament, held March 1-3. The Lancers won the tournament in 2015-16 and will look to grab the crown once again, this time on their home court.
