CBU Formally Introduces Kyle Getter at Introductory Press Conference
4/10/2026 12:22:00 PM | Men's Basketball
RIVERSIDE --- Kyle Getter was formally introduced as the 13th head coach in California Baptist University (CBU) Men's Basketball history on Thursday evening. In front of a crowd of over 200 CBU staff, students, and supporters, Getter offered his first public remarks as the Lancers' leader.
Vice President of Athletics Dr. Micah Parker introduced coach Getter, but not before offering some remarks on the hiring process.
Dr. Parker noted, "On Sunday evening, March 29, I prepared a list of coaches that I would be contacting the next morning about this position. It was almost overwhelming the interest we received from the best power four and mid-major universities throughout the country."
He added, "I spoke to the Mount Rushmore of successful Christian coaches in collegiate and professional basketball. While each person I talked to gave me different names, there was one name that kept on coming up consistently, and that was Kyle Getter."
Coach Getter was then welcomed to the stage with a standing ovation from those in attendance. He offered his first remarks as head coach, stating, "First of all, I would like to thank God for providing this opportunity for me and my family. My wife and I have been praying for an opportunity like this, and I can't express just how much gratitude I have to be standing in front of you today."
Getter continued by speaking about the fit CBU was for his family, noting the importance of faith in this decision.
"CBU is a perfect fit for us and our family," said Getter. "Our faith is the most important thing in our lives, and we were immediately attracted to the job due to our alignment with the university's mission and core beliefs."
Getter then recognized the group of men's basketball student-athletes in attendance, a group he had known for only three days. The first-year head coach spoke about CBU's recent success across all sports and how he hopes to build on it.
CBU has won seven WAC Championships through the completion of the winter season. One of those, a WAC Tournament Championship, was captured by the men's basketball program. That championship moment was paired with the first March Madness berth in program history.
"I am so excited to continue to build the momentum from this past season," said Getter. "There is a standard of excellence within the university and athletic department, demonstrated by the seven conference championships this past year, across many sports."
Getter then shifted focus to his team's identity and what fans can expect to see when they enter the Fowler Events Center. He noted that his team will be built on five biblical pillars: unity, humility, passion, servanthood, and thankfulness."
On his team's identity, Getter noted, "We are going to be an extremely hard-playing, tough, skilled, and unified team. We are going to play a brand of basketball that is both efficient, as well as exciting to watch. I am excited to get recruits and their families to campus. The facilities, people, growth, and commitment to honor Christ through excellence in athletics is second to none."
The event signed off with the performance of the CBU Fight Song, performed by the CBU pep band. Getter then answered questions for attending members of the media.
Now at the tail end of his first week with the Lancers, focus is permanently on recruiting and finalizing his staff, as Getter looks to build his first team and enter CBU's next era as members of the Big West Conference.
