RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A new era in California Baptist University basketball will begin in 2017-18, as the Lancers are set to move into their new home in the CBU Events Center and conclude their final season in the PacWest and NCAA Division II at large before starting the transition to Division I.
"We are excited about this year's schedule," said Director of Athletics Dr. Micah Parker. "Some of the highlights in the schedules include hosting two tournaments, a very competitive non-conference schedule and our first-ever basketball homecoming game. Our PacWest schedule includes some great rivalries including APU, Dixie State, Point Loma and Concordia."
It all tips off at the first-ever CBU Conference Challenge when Simon Fraser, UC San Diego and Cal State San Marcos all visit Riverside to begin the new year. The Lancers open up against Cal State San Marcos at 3 p.m. on Nov. 10th.
There are plenty more firsts awaiting CBU this upcoming season. It will be the first time season tickets are sold for the Lancers. Fans can purchase various levels at cbulancers.com/seasontickets. It will mark former Golden State Athletic Conference-rival Biola's inaugural campaign in the PacWest. The regular season will come to a close with CBU hosting the PacWest Tournament for the first time, as well.
Following the CBU Conference Challenge, the Lancers will face Simon Fraser in a home-away series on Nov. 13 and 18, with the first game in Riverside starting at 7 p.m.
It will start a six-game stretch away from home, as CBU will visit Cal State San Bernardino on Nov. 21st and then take on Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Los Angeles in the Point Loma Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 24 and 25, respectively.
Road trips continue from there, with the Lancers opening PacWest play with a trip to Hawaii to take on Hawaii-Hilo and Chaminade on Nov. 30 and Dec. 2, respectively.
CBU returns home to continue conference competition with Point Loma and Dixie State on Dec. 9 and 16. The Lancers will head into Christmas break after road games at Biola and Cal State East Bay on Dec. 18 and 19.
The new year opens up with Dominican visiting Riverside on Jan. 3rd. It will be the first of five games in 12 days, as CBU visits Point Loma (Jan. 5), Dixie State (Jan. 8) and returns home to host PacWest-rival Azusa Pacific (Jan. 13) and Hawaii Pacific (Jan. 15).
After two road games at Concordia (Jan. 20) and Azusa Pacific (Jan. 25), the Lancers will shift into their longest homestand of the season, with five-straight home games in 14 days. They will host Concordia (Feb. 1), Notre Dame de Namur (Feb. 3), Academy of Art (Feb. 6), Biola (Homecoming, Feb. 10) and Chaminade (Feb.15) within that time frame.
CBU wraps up the regular season with road games at Fresno Pacific (Feb. 17), Dominican (Feb. 22) and Holy Names (Feb. 24). PacWest Tournament play begins on March 1, with the top six teams from the regular season chasing a tournament title and postseason berth. For the first time, CBU will play host to the tournament in the new Events Center.
"Hosting the PacWest Tournament in our final year of the conference allows us to further showcase our new Events Center," concluded Parker.
