RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Despite hanging up her Lancer jersey last March, Cassidy Mihalko isn't done playing and signed with the Ringwood Hawks out of Melbourne, Australia.
"Overall, I feel so blessed that I am able to continue playing basketball," said Mihalko. "After our last season ended [at CBU], I knew I would miss it and I wasn't sure if I would ever get to play on a team again. Being able to play at a higher level and travel the world is a dream come true!"
California Baptist University's all-time leading scorer in the NCAA era finished a historic career with the Lancers, picking up award after award. Mihalko was the PacWest Player of the Year, PacWest Female Athlete of the Year, PacWest Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and West Region Player of the Year. She also earned all-conference, all-region and All-American honors after becoming the PacWest's all-time leading scorer with 2,231 career points.
Mihalko led CBU in points, rebounds and steals per game at 19.8, 7.8 and 2.13, respectively, and posted 12 double-doubles last season.
Overall, she ranked second in Division II in field goals made (271), 13th in points per game, 22nd in field-goal percentage (54.5), 26th in steals (79), 30th in free-throw percentage (85.7) and 35th in rebounds (290) this season.
The Franklin, Wis., native will look to carry that momentum with the Hawks in Australia's V League. The season starts in March of 2018, with Mihalko planning to move Down Under in January to start training. Before that, however, Miahlko will join the Hawks on a tour this November to India – the first Australian team to get the invite to the tour.
