RIVERSIDE, Calif. – For the first time ever, California Baptist University will host a Canned Food Drive game when the Lancers women's basketball team hosts Cal State Fullerton in the CBU Events Center on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
It will coincide the Annual Canned Food Drive put on by CBU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to donate to Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization, around the Thanksgiving holiday. The Feeding America network consists of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs, committed to fighting hunger in communities across America.
"It's important for our student-athletes to get in the habit of giving back to the community that supports them," said Director of Athletics, Dr. Micah Parker. "This is an important part of our yearly student-athlete leadership commitment as SAAC members."
The Lancers student-athletes collected almost 6,000 pounds of food last year to donate to Feeding America. CBU will hope to surpass that mark this season, as it invites its fans to take part in the athletic department's Canned Food Drive for the first time.
Fans can exchange a canned food item for a ticket to the game at the entrance of the CBU Events Center. It will also be the first-ever meeting between the two Southern California schools, as the Lancers are in year one of their reclassification to NCAA Division I and the Western Athletic Conference.
