CBU has a new challenge on the horizon: to qualify for and compete at the Western Athletic Conference Championship. Last year, two Lancers won individual conference crowns, with more looking to challenge in their new conference, the WAC.
Of CBU's 10 scheduled events, all but one will be in California, with seven of those taking place in SoCal.
"We're excited to get started with our first season in Division I," said Coach Adam Tribble. "One of the many great things about being in California is you're already in the locale where distance runners from all around the world come to race."
The Lancers open the track season close to home, heading to Riverside City College on March 2 for a meet with UC Riverside, Pepperdine, Cal State Fullerton and the Tigers scheduled to be in attendance.
Two weeks later, CBU heads to a familiar meet with the Occidental Invitational on March 16. The next week, the Lancers are back in Riverside, this time at UCR for a meet.
CBU closes out March up north in the Bay Area with some athletes competing at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and others at the Stanford Invitational.
April has four meets on the schedule to get the Lancers prepared for the WAC Championships in May. CBU first heads to the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, before competing at two of the biggest track meets in Southern California: the Mt. SAC Relays (April 18-20) and the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 18-19), hosted by Azusa Pacific.
The Lancers have one last chance to qualify for the WAC Championships at the Steve Scott Invitational on April 27. The event is hosted by UC Irvine and draws a big Division I crowd.
On May 8, those who have qualified will compete out in Salt Lake City for the first time in the WAC Championship Meet.
